Afghan saffron,guaranteed at origin.

The Afghan Zafaran Consortium brings together an extensive network of saffron producers, from the farmer who grows it to the team that processes and exports it, headquartered in Herat. Written rules control every lot, and all saffron is processed and packed at origin under a GFSI-recognised food safety scheme, with lot-by-lot QR traceability. So that Afghan saffron reaches the world and its value stays with the families who grow it.

The Consortium

10 producers. One standard.

The Afghan Zafaran Consortium brings together its member producers in Herat, drawing on a large and growing network of farmers across the region, under one set of rules: how members are admitted, how saffron is purchased from growers, and how every lot is controlled before it is packed.

The Consortium was created within the ACEBA project, with one purpose: that Afghan saffron reaches professional buyers with the same guarantees a European origin scheme provides.

One code. Three answers.

Scan the QR code on every pack. It opens three answers.

  1. Two growers working the rows of a saffron field at dusk, the cultivation area running to the horizon

    See where it grew.

Satellite view of the cultivation areas behind that lot.

  2. Two saffron growers standing in their field at harvest, holding corms and a planting tool

    Meet the growers.

Their photographs, their stories, and the saffron each one contributed to the tin in your hand.

  3. Members of the sorting team separating saffron threads by hand at a lit bench

    Check the quality yourself.

Our position

No bulk. Afghan saffron, undisguised.

Around the world, origin countries have sold their best products in bulk, only to see them return under other names. The value and the reputation stayed abroad, far from the people who grew them.

Afghan saffron will not follow that road. We pack at origin, so the value and the name remain in Afghanistan.

Whatever the brand on the front, every tin still leads back to the field it came from.
